Introduction to Coding with HTML 5 Web APIs

When: 11 Aug 2018 11:00 am - 2:00 pm

Greeting from in5!

The HTML 5 specification added a great deal of power to modern day web browsers, providing the platform for a much richer web experience for users. This standard also mandated the inclusion of several powerful web APIs right in to the browser. These APIs often don’t get the attention they deserve from developers, but they make life a lot easier, especially when coding for the mobile web. For example, did you know you can directly access your clipboard or even store data locally in an indexed DB through your web app without installing any additional libraries or plugins? In this workshop, we'll run through basic Javascript use cases for many of these out-of-the-box APIs and show you how to mash up various APIs in your code. We’ll also focus specifically on APIs that will be useful for those coding web apps for browsing on mobile devices, including the Geolocation API, the Vibration API, the Device Orientation API, the Battery Status API and many more.
