Deep Learning For Computer Vision

We’re proud to announce the first event in The Assembly: Data Science stream on 30th November 2019 at in5 Tech! These workshops will cover data science platforms and techniques, machine learning and artificial intelligence paradigms with more sophisticated content from experts for those who would like to do a deep dive into these topics.  

Our first session will cover Deep Learning For Computer Vision.  We’ll take you over the basics of computer vision - the science of how computers can autonomously gain a high level understanding of digital images and video - and then zoom into the most popular open source library for this purpose: OpenCV.  While OpenCV can be used for simple object detection and rendering, its true value is in deploying machine learning models for that core function and to that end, it supports all the popular deep learning frameworks like TensorFlow and PyTorch.  We’ll delve into the world of Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) and best practices for optimizing your layers - after which we’ll build a face detector and look into state-of-the-art object detection models as used in YOLO.

Our facilitator for this session is Anudeep Sekhar, an AI entrepreneur and computer vision specialist who has worked in the deep learning field for the past 3 years, and extensively on computer vision pipelines for robotics applications.  Anudeep is currently researching real-time deployment of computer vision algorithms on embedded platforms.

The event will run from 11AM - 230PM, and we will use Jupyter Notebooks for the hands-on part, so please do install Anaconda in advance if you’d like to follow along.

Pre-requisites:

  • Bring your laptop
  • Basic knowledge of machine learning theory and math
  • Basic Python programming knowledge
  • Install Anaconda on your laptop beforehand as it’s a long installation (https://www.anaconda.com/download/)
