Home Automation With WLED & Tasmota By the Assembly

Tasmota is an alternative firmware for ESP8266 based wi-fi dev boards, which allows for easy integration with smart home IoT systems through enhanced control over HTTP/serial/MQTT etc. The project was started in January 2017 by Theo Arends and is specifically written for the Arduino IDE. Tasmota makes it incredibly simple to find devices on your local network & configure them using a web-based GUI.

In this workshop, we’ll set up a simple light automation system using pixel addressable LED strips and ESP8266 NodeMCU dev board powered by Tasmota & the feature-rich WLED software platform. We will learn how to set up the Arduino IDE with all the required libraries; we will configure our device and adapt it for short/long/multiple LED strips.

The web interface provided by WLED is just one of many ways to interact with and activate our LED strip and we will learn how to integrate it into a home automation environment. WLED supports REST, home assistant integration, MQTT, JSON & IFTTT - and as an open source platform, can be customized to a variety of hardware features.

This workshop will be conducted by expert maker & physical computing expert Simone Majocchi.
