We live in a connected world and our products and projects often need to be connected wirelessly to services, devices or the internet itself. Finding WiFi access in Dubai is easy, but it becomes a real blocker when you’re using a lightweight IoT device like a microcontroller or a smart appliance, incapable of interactive access methods. However, with a hidden SSID access point we welcomed this technological addition in a used case at our in5 prototyping lab. We designed and made a system that counts people getting into the lab through the main door, announces the arrival or departure of visitors in the assistant’s office and also shows the current number of people in the lab on a big and colourful double digits seven segments display.
This initiative is another little step to make the in5 prototyping lab the ideal environment to develop useful and innovative applications based on digital fabrication, additive manufacturing, electronics, and microcontrollers.
