Malek Al Malek serves as the Chief Executive Officer of TECOM Business Parks that is enabling innovation at scale in Dubai through entrepreneurship and economic diversification programs. Under his leadership, Malek has led the transformation of TECOM Group’s communities into destinations for innovation, attracting some of the world’s most advanced businesses and entrepreneurs. Amongst these communities are Dubai Media City, Dubai Internet City, Dubai Science Park and Dubai Knowledge Park which have helped elevate Dubai’s leadership position in creating unique ecosystems founded by innovative professionals, established businesses and industry leading infrastructure. Today, TECOM Group operates 11 thriving business ecosystems that host over 5,100 companies, and a workforce of more than 76,000 people across the rapidly expanding media, education, technology and science sectors.
Malek pioneered the launch of in5, an integrated innovation platform that has created, within Dubai, a distinctive and well-rounded ecosystem for entrepreneurs and start-ups to be incubated and nurtured through the development of their business ventures, as well as providing them with mentorship, training, business support and access to investors. Malek is an active participant in the development of the UAE’s education sector through his role on the Board of Trustees at the Higher Colleges of Technology, and as Chairman of the Centre of Excellence for Research &Training (CERT) Foundation. Malek’s additional responsibilities include serving as a member of the Board of Directors at the Mohammed Bin Rashid Library and SmartCity.
Malek joined TECOM Group in 2002 and last served as the Managing Director of Dubai Internet City and Dubai Outsource Zone. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management from the UAE Higher Colleges of Technology.
Bassam El Khoury was appointed as the Head of Innovation of TECOM Group in June 2015. In his role, he focuses on key initiatives to support the local entrepreneurial ecosystem, help achieve organizational nimbleness and encourage a more pronounced entrepreneurial culture.
Before joining TECOM Group, Bassam founded and operated an e-commerce platform based in Ivory Coast focused on the fashion vertical. Prior to that, he advised foreign companies on market entry strategy into the MENA region, and helped various start-ups think about their business development and growth. He was also co-founder and Managing Director at Rocket-Internet where he was responsible for launching e-commerce start-ups in MENA. Prior to this, Bassam worked as a senior consultant at McKinsey & Co. in New York and in Dubai.
Bassam holds an MBA from Harvard Business School, a Masters in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University and a Bachelor’s in Computer Engineering from the American University in Beirut.
Rekha Setpal is the Head of Community Services at Dubai Internet City, a member of TECOM Group and the largest business community for technology, entrepreneurship, and innovation in the Middle East.
Setpal plays a critical role in supporting Dubai’s ICT industry vertical and is a key figure within TECOM Group’s start-up ecosystem at in5. Her ability to forge links between new and existing business partners has enabled the community to develop closer ties and inform the creation of servies that are relevant and accessible. As part of the senior management team responsible for guiding TECOM Group’s in5 innovation center, she has helped connect local start-ups with investment capital of over AED58 million since 2013, and has overseen the launch of more than 70 ICT and digital media start-ups.
Setpal has established partnerships with leading universities and mentorship networks that have contributed to the content and delivery of industry workshops and training to 4,000 technopreneurs across Dubai. Prior to joining Dubai Internet City, she managed several large business accounts at Etisalat which helped streghten her interest and expertise in the technology sector. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from the American Global International University in Miami.
